Tse Wei Chang

International Applicant

I had my university education in New Zealand and am currently working in Malaysia as a Project Engineer with a multinational mining processing company. Since joining IChemE as a student I have felt getting Chartered is one of the things I must do to prove my professionalism and gain respect.

I have 5 years experience and am glad that my work experience in my home country is accepted for Chartership application.

As I am based out of the UK, it is impossible for me to attend a Get Chartered workshop. However, I have relied on email correspondence with the IChemE membership department whenever I have been in doubt: memserv@icheme.org. The personnel are really prompt and helpful in attending to my queries.

I also keep an eye on http://www.getchartered.org which has lots of tips on how to achieve Chartership. Signing up to the Get Chartered newsletter means I am regularly updated with advice and information.

I decided this year it was time for me to make my application. I started compiling the report in the old Training & Experience format using notes from a brief diary I have kept.

Half way through writing my report, the new Competence & Commitment format was published. I had made an evaluation of both formats and concluded the C&C report was far more user friendly. The format is clear and simple to use with its many subsections and the guidelines provide sufficient examples of the kind of experiences expected of me.
