Who else is Getting Chartered?

How a Committee Interview helped me to get Chartered
 |
I left Cambridge University
with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 2000 and soon
decided I wanted to gain Chartered status.
Throughout my training I kept a log of my experience
and ensured I was current with IChemE’s requirements.
I secured placements that would aid my path to Chartership
and after 4 years working as a process engineer at
Foster Wheeler, I was ready to submit my report. Soon
afterward I was invited for interview.

Attending the standard interview
At the interview I was confident I had the necessary experience
and left feeling it went well. Three weeks later I got a letter
saying I was required to attend a second Committee Interview.
I felt very disappointed and could not understand why the first
interview had not been a success.
Attending the Committee Interview
To prepare for the Committee Interview I reviewed all the
documentation I had initially submitted and elaborated on any
points I felt required more depth.
During the second interview I explained my experience in more
detail and left knowing the Committee panel had received all
the information they needed to form the basis of my election.
The next day I was granted Chartered status.
For me, the Committee Interview worked to my advantage. Unfortunately
not enough of my knowledge and experience had come across at
first interview, but the IChemE application system meant I
was given another chance to provide evidence to support my
application.
