Chartered Scientist (CSci) application

You may apply for Chartered Scientist registration through IChemE at the time of an application for Chartered Member MIChemE, or after, as an existing Chartered Member.

Chartered Members of IChemE

In order to gain the Chartered Scientist qualification as an existing Chartered Member of IChemE, you are required to:

  1. complete a Competence and Commitment report:
    • section A should be approximately 1000 words, outlining evidence of:
      application of scientific knowledge to practical situations within chemical engineering context
    • section E should be a 200-300 word summary to demonstrate that you maintain a continued professional development plan
  2. undergo a professional interview.

Non-Chartered members of IChemE

You may apply for the CSci registration at the same time as you apply for Chartered Member, in addition to, or instead of CEng registration


To apply for Chartered Scientist registration only

As part of a full application for Chartered Member, you are required to:

  1. complete a Competence and Commitment report with Section A referencing:

    application of scientific knowledge to practical situations within a chemical engineering context

  2. attend a brief professional interview based on the above.

To apply for both Chartered Scientist and Chartered Engineer registrations

As part of a full application for Chartered Member, you are required to:

  1. complete a Competence and Commitment report with two additional sections:

    • section A
      one version of section A should reference:
      application of chemical engineering knowledge and understanding to practical situations
      an additional version of section A should reference:
      application of scientific knowledge to practical situations within chemical engineering context
    • section E
      one version should demonstrate that you maintain a continued professional development plan:
      regarding your chemical engineering knowledge
      an additional version of section E should demonstrate that you maintain a continued professional development plan:
      regarding your scientific knowledge, within a chemical engineering context

  2. you will also be required to attend two professional interviews based on the above, which will usually be held on the same day.
